Amarillo, TX — Here is the daily livestock summary for Thursday, November 19, 2009, as reported by the USDA.
In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas,
Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; Thus far Thursday,
negotiated cash trading was limited in the Southern Plains. Trading was slow on
light demand in Nebraska and the Western Cornbelt and inactive in Colorado. Not
enough sales to establish an adequate market trend. On Wednesday live sales
sold at 84.00 in the Texas Panhandle. Live sale sold at 83.00 in Kansas. In
Nebraska live sales sold from 82.00 to 84.00 and dressed sales sold at 130.00.
In Colorado live sales sold at 83.50. In the Western Cornbelt live sales sold
from 80.00 to 82.00 and dressed sales at 130.00.
Steers: Live basis; (all Grades: 2,006 head) 81.00-84.00, weighted average
price 82.98. Dressed basis; (all Grades: 985 head) 130.00-132.00, weighted
average price 130.16. Heifers: live basis; (all Grades: 1,495 head) 81.00-
84.00, weighted average 82.06. Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 825 head) 130.00,
weighted average 130.00.

Compared to last week: Choice steers and heifers steady to .50 higher.

Compared to last week’s larger supply slaughter steers and heifers
steady. Holstein steers 1.00 lower on a light test. Several drafts
went to the country for future contracts.
