Amarillo, TX — Here is the daily livestock summary for Wednesday, October 28, 2009, as reported by the USDA.
In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas,
Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; Kansas and Nebraska;
trading was moderate with moderate to good demand in the Southern Plains and
light on moderate demand in all other feeding regions. Texas Panhandle sold
1.00 to 2.00 higher from 87.00 to 88.00. Live sales in Kansas sold 1.50 to 2.50
higher at 87.00. Live sales in Nebraska sold mostly 1.50 to 2.00 higher at
mostly 86.00 to 87.00. Live sales in Colorado sold 1.00 to 2.00 higher from
86.00 to 87.00. Few dressed sales in Iowa/Minnesota sold steady to 2.00 higher
from 132.00. Steers: Live basis; (all Grades: 3,170) 82.00-87.00, weighted
average price 86.91. Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 1,947 head) 130.00-136.00,
weighted average price 132.59. Heifers: Live Basis; (all Grades: 4,273 head)
82.50-87.00, weighted average price 86.50. Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 703
head) 132.00-137.00, weighted average price 134.37.

Direct Trade: Carcass Basis: based on 185 lbs hog carcass with 0.9-1.1 inch
back fat and 6 inch square loin/2.0 inch depth plant delivered. National
direct trade barrows and gilts were .01 higher with prices ranging from 42.50-
52.53, weighted average price 51.05. Iowa-Minnesota was .07 higher at 49.50-
52.50, weighted average price 51.62. Western Cornbelt sold .03 lower at
43.00-52.53, weighted average price 51.59 and Eastern Cornbelt was .30 lower
at 42.50-50.68, weighted average price 49.13.
Live Basis (240-280 lbs): National direct barrows and gilts were .30 lower
at 31.37-41.50, weighted average price 38.94. Iowa-Minnesota was .26 higher at
31.37-41.50, weighted average 38.74. Western Cornbelt was .08 higher at 31.37-
41.50, weighted average price 38.76. Eastern Cornbelt was .62 lower at 34.57-
40.50, weighted average price 39.32.
