Wasn’t Thursday simply glorious? Clear skies most of the day, a high of 76 and a low of 48. Treasure the memory because, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, we’ve got another cold front pushing through today and it’s likely this one will develop strong to severe thunderstorms.
There’s a 40 percent chance today of scattered showers and thunderstorms as the front approaches the Panhandles with mostly cloudy skies otherwise. Some thunderstorms may be strong to severe in the afternoon and evening with large hail and damaging winds being the main threats. Gusty winds will be possible as the cold front nears the region. Winds will be out of the east winds from 10 to 20 mph today switching to northeast tonight from 10 to 20 mph as the chance for precipitation increases to 50 percent.
Saturday’s potential for storms drops to 30 percent across the Panhandles and Saturday night across the eastern Panhandles. Sunday through Tuesday a 20 percent chance of storms remains and then pops again for Thursday and Thursday night. These thunderstorms are not expected to become severe at this time, the NWS adds.
Highs through Tuesday should approach 80 with overnight lows in the low to mid 50s.
