A host of golden sunflowers

Wednesday was a brisk one — with overcast skies all day and a high of just 63 and an overnight low of 48. No wonder I stopped when I saw a crowd, a host, of golden sunflowers, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Definitely a bright spot in a dreary day as my heart with pleasure filled and danced along with the daffodils, er, sunflowers — with apologies to William Wordsworth and his two centuries-old homage to the lowly daffodil.
After yesterday’s anomaly, temperatures should climb back into the low 80s today and burn off any morning fog, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo. Then we resume our regular fall weather with highs in the low to mid 80s and overnight lows in the mid 50s.
There’s a 20 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms tonight as a weak weather disturbance tracks across the Oklahoma and northern Texas Panhandles. Storms aren’t expected to reach severe levels.
There’s a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms Friday through Saturday and severe storms are possible, primarily Friday and Friday night. Large hail and damaging winds would be the primary threats.
A 20 percent chance for thunderstorms reappears for Monday and Monday night but these storms aren’t expected to be severe.
