Farmers’ markets a win-win for all

Posted on August 24, 2008, 9:15am by Guymon Community Representative, Debbie Browning

Beyond the obvious buyers’ benefit of fresh produce, the growing trend of farmers’ markets around the state is having an impact.

Guymon’s initial attempt is growing every week — with new produce as vegetables ripen and new vendors try their hands. Admission is free for both vendors and buyers. All items have been grown or made by the vendor. The market is a joint effort by Main Street Guymon and the Business Enterprise Center. Contact Charles White at 338-6246 or Vicki Ayres-McCune at 338-5838 for more information or to sign up as a vendor.

Saturday’s version featured homemade tamales, homemade salsa, baked goods, fresh and dried organic herbs — be sure to stock up soon, she’s moving in about a month —  homemade dog biscuits and produce, including green beans, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, beets, radishes and okra. Melons are likely to be available next week.
