Schafer: No free early outs from CRP
Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer announced Tuesday afternoon that there will be no “early out” for contract holders of the Conservation Reserve Program.
Capitol Corner 07/30/08
This past week, I had the privilege to participate in two bill signing ceremonies at the State Capitol. One was HB2813, which allowed recovery of costs for transmission lines to electrical companies. The other was HB2272, which was the bill for the bond money for roads and bridges.
911 surcharge passes
The main concern in Texas County Tuesday was the countywide vote on whether to impose a 50 cent-per-month fee on each wireless connection to fund the costs of processing wireless 911 calls. Fortunatel,y voters agrred the surcharge was needed. Yes, 667 (62.5%); No, 399 (37.5%). Passed.

Water problems persist in Guymon

While Oklahoma’s recent combination of oppressive heat and lack of rainfall might seem troublesome, state officials say it’s not time to worry — yet.
The summer of 2008 so far has been pretty average. Some regions are wetter than normal, some drier than normal. But most aren’t anywhere near dangerously dry levels.

A much-needed new library building is on the horizon for Guymon and citizen input is being requested to help ensure the facility will meet our needs.
