Guymon Splits “Big Bats” games

Guymon High School baseball coach Dave Woodard guided the Tigers to a split during the final day of the “Battle of the Big Bats” Tournament Saturday at Hobart.
HOBART — The Guymon High School baseball team split games on Saturday during the finale of the “Battle of the Big Bats” Tournament.
Guymon finished sixth out of eight teams in the event.
The Tigers now stand at 9-11 heading into Tuesday’s home doubleheader against Woodward at Asa Howard Field. The junior varsity team will play at Woodward at the same time. The doubleheaders will start at 5 p.m.
Guymon defeated Riverside, 13-3, in the consolation semifinals and followed that with a 13-8 loss to Cordell.
Here’s a recap on each game:
Game One
Guymon 13, Riverside 3
Guymon spanked five doubles and scored nine runs in the first two innings combined en route to the victory.
Andy Galindo earned the win, pitching a complete-game five innings. Galindo struck out six, walked two, issued two hit batters and sprayed nine hits.
The Tigers put the game away in the fourth inning as Landon Huckins reached base on an error and scored on Daniel Ortiz’s double. Kaleb Caudell’s double scored Daniel Ortiz. In turn, Caudell plated a run when Doug Smoak reached base on account of an error.
Raul Carrillo scored three runs. Matthew Burkett went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Game Two
Cordell 13, Guymon 8
Guymon played Cordell for the second time this season, and played much better than they did on its first try.
Huckins took the loss, throwing three innings, giving up nine runs while striking out two, walking two and issuing one hit batter. Less than half the runs Huckins allowed were earned.
Guymon hit the ball well. Daniel Guadian, Burkett and Smoak all went 2-for-2 and Burkett and Caudell 2-for-3. Dang Dang and Burkett both scored twice for the Tigers.
